Chapter Thirteen

“Here we go, little man.” Megan set Aaron in the high chair then turned to look through the window over the sink. “Daddy is on his way in from his morning chores and we don’t have breakfast ready yet.”

She crossed to the coffee pot and discovered that Dan must have turned it on before going outside. She next went to the fridge. She was staring inside hoping for inspiration when the kitchen door opened.

“Good morning.” Dan leaned over to kiss the top of his son’s head. “Late start?”

“Someone wasn’t cooperating this morning.” Megan closed the fridge door and opened the freezer. “I’m still thinking about breakfast.”

“Are there any breakfast cookies?” Dan asked hopefully.

“No. I’ll have to make more when I have time.” She closed the freezer door then went to the kitchen counter.

“What’ve we got?” Dan asked as he took two mugs from a cupboard.

“Frozen turkey sausage links and a potato.” She opened the multifunction cooker.

“Tell me you’re kidding.” He leaned over her shoulder to peer into the cooker. He then gave the package of turkey sausage a dubious look. “Those are each hoagie size and they’re frozen. What are you going to do?”

“I’m going to cook them.” She added one and a half cups of hot water to the pot and set the air fryer basket inside. “I’ll quarter the potato since it isn’t that huge. Otherwise I would probably slice it into eighths if it was ginormous. Then I’ll put the four sections in there with the frozen sausage.”

Her hands never stopped moving. In a matter of moments, the cooker was building pressure. “I’m going to pressure cook them for five minutes.”

“Then what?”

“Then I release the pressure and switch to air frying them for about eight minutes or so.”

“That’s it?” he asked.

“No, I should turn the sausage and the potatoes at about halfway into the air fryer part just to make sure they brown evenly. And I might add some spices to the potatoes before I air fry them.” She took out a frying pan. “In the meantime, I might make a few eggs too.”

“Sounds good.” He turned to take out a cup for Aaron. “I’ll get his drink. That should keep him occupied for a bit.”

“The whole process should be about twenty to thirty minutes,” she said. “It depends on how long it takes to pressurize. I started with hot water.”

“Which means it doesn’t take as long to build up the pressure,” he said as he opened the fridge. “That makes sense. It’s just hard to believe that you can go from totally frozen to totally cooked so fast.”

“I’m not complaining this morning. I’m already behind.” She sprayed the pan and set it on a burner.

“I think I got back in the house a little earlier than usual,” he said as he filled Aaron’s cup. “We should be good on time.”

Her eyes went to the clock. “Yeah, maybe. What do you have planned for today?”

He passed the cup to Aaron. “I’m expecting a shipment to come in.
